5G for Łódź

5G for Łódź

At the beginning of January, the Ministry of Digital Affairs published a document entitled 5G strategy for Poland. Thanks to the efforts of the Lodz University of Technology and ICT Central Poland Cluster among others, Lodz was included in the ministerial document as a city that was recommended by the Minister of Digital Affairs to be the the first city whre the 5G network in Poland will be implemented.
Starting the proces of attracting the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Office of Electronic Communications for 5G pilotage in Łódź, we were fully aware of a number of arguments for our city - Prof. Sławomir Wiak, Rector of the Technical University of Lodz and chairman of ICT Central Poland Cluster said.
Łódź as a city that dynamically changes its face, it is located at the intersection of major communication routes, with excellent research facilities at the Lodz University of Technology, a strongly cooperating environment of technology companies focused in the ICT Central Poland Cluster and an open attitude of city and province authorities, was presented during two Łódź events devoted to 5G technologies organized by the TUL and the cluster in Łódź in 2017 (technological panel during the European Economic Forum in October and Łódź IT Days in November with the participation of the Minister of Digital Affairs Anna Streżyńska).
The presence of the Minister of Digitization and representatives of the Office of Electronic Communications for the EGF and ŁDI was crucial for presenting the possibilities and potential that is focused in Łódź, especially in the context of the activity and advancement of cluster companies working on commercial applications of 5G technology, as well as work carried out at the Politechnika Lodz - says the rector of PŁ, prof. Sławomir Wiak.
It can not be overestimated that Łódź is currently in the midst of dynamic transformations related to the revitalization of the city center and the construction of the New Center of Łódź. The changes can also be seen on the PŁ Campus, which is already packed with many smart-technology solutions and is therefore a great place to conduct work, research and tests on the 5G network.
